The IR Illuminator Kit offers multiple mounting configurations:
The included 25mm flashlight mount attaches the IR torch to any standard 1913 Picatinny rail. For flexibility and expanded use, SIONYX also developed a custom Pic rail with a 1/4-20mm screw to thread into the bottom of Aurora cameras, enabling you to attach the IR torch directly to Aurora.

The IR torch runs on a single 18650 rechargeable lithium battery for 2 hours of continuous run time. The kit includes an additional battery and USB-charger to keep you running through the night. All these items are packaged in a weather-tight hard case with custom die-cut foam.

Only an SSI “Mike Lite” is authorized by the U.S. Army for use in Army aircraft because they are the only Mike Lite that meets ALL 20 Specifications outlined in the original R&D contract

*NVIS White is your best choice, followed by soft white, for a light that will protect your central night vision and provide a full spectrum of light. Green and Blue also protects your central night vision, but blues and greens disappear within this color of light – something for a pilot to consider prior to use. Red will protect your peripheral night vision, but not central vision as efficiently as the soft white, blue and green. Red lettering, road markers or images on charts will also not be visible with red light, another consideration for the pilot to consider when making a color choice.

MIL-STD-3009 was developed by the Department of Defense in February 2001 and superseded MIL-L-85762A. It specifies that NVIS White for crew cockpit and utility lighting. NVIS Green A is grand fathered into the cockpit for certain applications, but not for new applications.

Phoenix JR 123 beacon was principally designed as an individual Combat Identification marker employed to minimize fratricide (the inadvertent destruction of battle field assets by friendly forces.) The PHOENIX 1.5 IS A PROGRAMMABLE BEACON. It is used as a covert marker and signaling device where precise identification of personnel, equipment and locations is needed. Users can easily install unique signals for individual identification. Signal is input by using a coin or any metal object to close the gap between the two pins on top of the beacon. Removing the battery deletes the stored code.

An internal six (6) second memory will accept a field installed flash (Morse Code-like) signal that the operator programs via the two programming pins. Miniature indicator lights within the device will flash the pattern as it is being recorded by the user to confirm the code being stored. During operation, the user can reactivate the miniature indicator lights at anytime allowing the operator to confirm the broadcast code in situations where their own night vision equipment has become lost or damaged.

SPECIAL FORCES OFTEN RENDEZVOUS WITH INDIGENOUS FORCES AT NIGHT. These rendezvous are generally preplanned and usually done without benefit of radio or voice communications.

Pre-Planned codes, transmitted by the covert Phoenix 1.5 Beacon allow for precise identification of the friendly forces.

The PHOENIX 1.5 IS A USER PROGRAMMABLE BEACON. With a coin or similar metallic device, the user can tap in a Morse Code-like signal up to six-seconds in length. Subminiature light emitting diodes (LED) inside the beacon indicate the code as it is installed and tell when the memory is full. These same LED’s provide confirmation of both operation and the installed code. To confirm operation, short and hold the two pins while observing the LED’s. They will repeat the operating code.

IR BEACONS OPERATE ON THE TIP OF ANTENNAS FOR DAYS. The US Army and others use infrared (IR) beacons attached to the tip of the vehicular antenna for combat identification. For years, they detached and replaced the battery every other day to assure continued operation. The new VPAK-1 takes power from any vehicle or DC power source (10V to 35V) by means of the flying lead cable. The VPAK-1 has integrated surge protection; protecting the installed beacon from voltage surges associated with engine start-up.

DURING NIGHT CONVOY OPERATIONS, IN HOSTILE TERRITORY it is prudent to mark the vehicles with combat identifiers. The most common are the Phoenix, Phoenix Jr. and Pegasus Beacons. Those provide effective IR signaling that is readily identified by Night Vision devices (NVD) equipped support elements. From the air, cover aircraft can easily identify an IR-marked convoy at ranges out to five miles . The marking aids convoy integrity and tracking of a vehicle that may stray from the group.

902801 Poseidon Mounting Clip for Phoenix/Pegasus Series beacons

Operating Depth: The Poseidon — Phoenix / Pegasus Mounting Clip (902801) provides a water tight casing for the beacon and battery assembly. If immersed without the Poseidon case, the unit will continue to operate until the contacts fail due to water and electrolytic corrosion. Given these conditions the depth limitation is solely determined by the battery’s ability to withstand depth.
